ACX Electronic Emissions Trading Platform

The ACX Electronic Emissions Trading Platform (EETP) is a joint venture between the ACX and long standing market operator Australia Pacific Exchange Limited (APX).

Initially the platform was developed for transactions in certified, Greenhouse Friendly™ Approved Abatement or VERs and today also lists NGACs and the international VER+. There are a number of other tradable instruments currently in existence in Australia and it is ACX's intention to include these in the future. In order for you to sell Offsets on the platform they must be registered with the ACX Registrar, in addition to you being registered as a Client with an approved Broker.

To register as a Client contact one of the Brokers on the ACX list of Registered Brokers and you can apply to open a trading account. Brokers registered with the ACX can access the EETP and place bids and offers on behalf of their clients.

To become an Approved Broker on the ACX EETP a Broker must meet the minimum requirement set down in the ACX Business Rules.

Market & Trading Conditions

Only ACX brokers will be allowed to submit orders to the online trading system.

Trading will occur on the trading system on the basis of the highest bid, the lowest offer and otherwise in accordance with time priority.

Prior to opening of trading on each business day, the trading system will be in pre-opening phase, whereby bids and offers may be entered but no trading will occur. Following the pre-opening phase the trading system will be placed into the opening phase where all overlapping bids and offers will be matched at the weighted price. The trading system will then be in normal trading phase. At the end of the day the trading system will be placed into the enquire phase until pre-opening phase the following day.

Special crossings and short selling will not be allowed in the ACX market. Crossings will be allowed, however, existing demand or supply in the market at the crossing price must be satisfied prior to executing a crossing.

ACX may suspend an emission commodity from trading. If an emission commodity has been suspended by ACX, brokers must not trade in that Emission Commodity. For more information on rules governing ACX Brokers and the ACX market refer to the ACX Business Rules

Each ACX broker must ensure that it transacts business on the ACX market so as to maintain an orderly market at all times, and must not make a bid, offer or any dealing whether as principal or agent that will create a false or misleading appearance with respect to the market or the price of any emissions commodity.

The market will be open for trading between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm (EST) on each business day. Trading hours are 10:00 to 16:00 hours EST on business days. Business days being Monday to Friday inclusive, except New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and any other day that APX declares is not a business day.
