The ACX Management Team

The management team is mature with qualified and experienced individuals who have been selected on their ability to offer complementary skill sets. Each member has technical / functional specialities as well as broad-based business management knowledge that will manage and operate the spectrum of conventional organisational functions, as well as the deliverable that differentiates the business.

Tim Hanlin - Managing Director
Tim Hanlin is Managing Director and co-founder of Australian Climate Exchange Limited and as such has been intimately involved in all stages of planning and development of the ACX. He is also Principal Consultant for all strategic and corporate advisory consulting assignments accepted by the ACX.

He has over 15 years of experience in executive management roles in a broad range of industries from civil construction to energy and resources. Prior to the establishment of the ACX, Tim spent four years as Commercial – Investment Manager for Woodside’s sustainable energy company, Metasource. He was a principal driver behind the development of Woodside’s GHG emissions offset strategy and has been identifying and assessing offset opportunities both in Australia and internationally for over five years.

Tim is the author of ACX’s “Emissions measurement Management and action process” or EmMap™ system – a self assessment and management tool designed to allow Australian organisations to measure and optimize their emissions inventory while developing internal capability in preparation for the introduction of a national emissions trading compliance scheme in Australia circa 2010-11 based on the UNFCC and Kyoto Protocol.

He is a regular speaker on the Australian emissions trading and climate change conference circuit and has presented seminars and workshops on subjects ranging from “Emissions Trading Fundamentals” through to “How to use emission trading as a tool for managing a company’s exposure to their carbon footprint”.

Tim is a former architect with post graduate qualifications in project management. He is also a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Scott Hill - Non-executive Director
Scott has over thirty years of management experience across both the private and public sectors in the precious metals, commodities, oil and gas and financial services industries. He has extensive international experience, including over ten years in executive management roles with the Rothschild Investment Banking Group.

Functional areas of particular focus include international trade, treasury, credit assessment and risk management. Scott’s specialist expertise in risk and derivatives modelling is of particular value to both the development and implementation of the ACX’s exchange framework and trading platform.

Previous executive positions include roles as Risk Manager for Woodside Energy, Treasurer for the Perth Mint and Marketing Director, Asia Pacific for Golden West Refining . Scott's expertise in risk assessment, trading, financial management and derivatives will be applied to the establishment and expansion of the exchange.

Scott holds an undergraduate degree in science and post graduate qualifications in physics and corporate finance.

Jon Hanlin - Non-executive Director
Jon has over nineteen years of broad financial and commercial experience across various industries including stock broking, merchant banking and accounting. Eight of these have been working directly for medium to large organisations including Westpac Banking Corporation. In 1994 Jon established Tidam Services, a boutique investment and business consultancy firm specialising in the co-ordination and project management of capital raisings and early stage business development, specifically assisting start-ups within the medical /health, IT, and clean technology industries.

Jon has gained a Master of Business Administration from The Graduate School of Management (UWA), a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Western Australia (UWA) and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (SIA).

Manus Higgins - General Manager, Technology and Offset Supply
Manus is a qualified Marine Scientist with an MSc in Renewable Energy Technologies and accreditation with the Business Council for Sustainable Energy for design and installation of renewable energy systems. With a background in energy policy and emerging energy technologies, Manus has over 7 years commercial experience with sustainable energy systems, energy policy and energy and greenhouse gas reduction in heavy industry. Manus has first hand knowledge of a diverse range of clean development technology areas including Integrated Gasified Combined Cycle (IGCC) systems (commonly called "clean coal"), renewable energy and fuel cell system design. He also has extensive experience in project feasibility, business development and energy analysis for heavy industry.

Bruno Gerrits – General Manager, Business Development
Bruno is responsible for promoting ACX as the premier execution venue for emission commodities. Through more than nine years promoting trading platforms across several countries in Europe and Australia, he has an extensive commercial background in the financial services industry. He has worked with a broad range of financial market participants in various financial instruments including FX, precious metals, fixed income, swaps and now carbon.

Bruno joined ACX in early 2008 from ICAP Sydney, a global interbank broker, where he was responsible for their electronic broking system for foreign exchange. Prior to this role, Bruno held key sales positions at various global trading platforms in London, including as Assistant Vice President at Thomson-Tradeweb - where he was responsible for sales growth in the Benelux region - and as Account Manager for Bloomberg electronic trading products.

Bruno holds a business degree from Loughborough University, England and a diploma in Applied Economics from UFSIA University, Belgium. He is fluent in English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish.
