Australian Climate Exchange (ACX) provides tools for Australian business to meet the challenge of a carbon constrained future.

About ACX

Australian Climate Exchange Limited (ACX) is an unlisted public company responsible for establishing the first Electronic Emissions Trading Platform for greenhouse gas emissions in Australia. Conceived by two former executives of Australia’s largest independent oil & gas producers back in July 2005 it was founded in December that year following an exhaustive analysis of the risks and opportunities of global emissions trading markets and a gap analysis of the Australian market.

The process of developing and operating the exchange and its associated infrastructure has provided ACX a unique perspective of both the Australian and international carbon markets. In the initial stages of the market’s development ACX has, from time to time, had to play several roles in the market from broker, trader, liquidity provider and regulator. The insights gained from this privileged market position allow ACX to provide strategic advice on market risks and opportunities to a wide variety of corporate and government clients.

The Aim of the the Australian Climate Exchange is to provide:

  • An Electronic Emissions Trading Platform supported by a Registry to track the ownership, trade and acquittal of suitably assessed Verified Emission Reduction units (VERs) in Australia;
  • Methodologies that assist you in discovering a range of costs and strategies when assessing your emission liability;
  • On-line workshops and educational modules that equip you and your colleagues with the understanding necessary to comprehend your greenhouse gas boundaries, inventories and how best meet your emission liabilities;
  • Assistance in gaining a competitive advantage through early engagement with the market;
  • Development in the supply of high quality and internationally fungible low cost emissions Offsets;
  • An environment for the development and deployment of clean technologies.
